Compliance

Last Updated: April 29, 2026

Moninsight is a software platform — not a bank, financial institution, investment advisor, or tax preparer. Understanding what kind of company we are is the foundation for understanding our compliance posture. This page explains the regulatory landscape we operate in, how we handle our obligations, and what we rely on our third-party partners to handle under their own compliance programs.

What Kind of Platform Moninsight Is

Moninsight is a SaaS (software-as-a-service) financial management tool for self-employed individuals. We help you organize your finances, automate bookkeeping, generate reports, and gain tax planning insights. We do not:

  • Hold, move, or custody your money
  • File your taxes on your behalf
  • Provide licensed financial, tax, or legal advice
  • Operate as a bank, credit union, or money services business (MSB)
  • Act as a broker-dealer or investment advisor

Because we are a software tool and not a regulated financial entity, we are not subject to banking regulations like those governing banks or credit unions, securities laws like those governing broker-dealers, or money transmitter licensing requirements. However, we take our obligations under data privacy law seriously, and we work with partners who carry their own regulatory responsibilities for the services they provide.

Data Privacy Compliance

California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA)

Moninsight does not sell personal information to third parties, as defined under the CCPA. California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal data we collect and how we use it
  • Request access to or deletion of their personal data
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising their privacy rights

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@moninsight.com. See our Privacy Policy for full details on what we collect and why.

General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) — EU/EEA Users

Moninsight is a U.S.-based service primarily designed for U.S. users. For users in the European Union or European Economic Area, we extend privacy rights consistent with GDPR principles, including rights to access, rectification, erasure, data portability, and objection to processing.

Our legal bases for processing your data are:

  • Performance of a contract — delivering the services you signed up for
  • Legitimate interests — security, fraud prevention, and improving the Service
  • Legal obligations — compliance with applicable law

If you are an EU user and believe your rights under GDPR have not been respected, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority.

Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA)

Moninsight's Service is intended for adults (18+) only. We do not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately. See our Privacy Policy for our full children's privacy policy.

Payment Processing Compliance

Moninsight does not process, store, or handle raw payment card data. Subscription billing is handled through a PCI DSS-compliant payment processor. PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) compliance means that your card details are handled within a certified secure environment — Moninsight never sees your full card number, CVV, or expiration date.

Banking Data and Plaid

When you connect a bank account, Moninsight uses Plaid Inc. to securely retrieve your transaction data. Plaid is a regulated and audited financial data aggregator that maintains its own compliance certifications and security program. Plaid handles the bank authentication process; Moninsight never receives or stores your banking credentials.

Your use of the Plaid integration is also subject to Plaid's own terms and privacy policy. For questions about how Plaid handles your banking data, refer to Plaid's Trust and Safety documentation at plaid.com/safety.

Tax Tools — Not a Tax Service

Moninsight provides tax planning and preparation insights — including a tax calculator, deduction tracker, quarterly payment tracker, and year-end planning tools. These are informational tools to help you stay organized and tax-ready. They do not constitute:

  • Officially prepared tax returns
  • Licensed tax advice
  • Tax filing with any government authority (federal or state)

Any tax-related output from Moninsight should be reviewed with a qualified tax professional before relying on it for compliance purposes. You remain solely responsible for filing accurate returns and paying taxes on time.

Governing Law

Moninsight's Terms of Service and business operations are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of state or federal courts in Delaware. This applies regardless of where you are located, except where mandatory local consumer protection laws provide otherwise.

Third-Party Compliance Responsibilities

Some of Moninsight's features rely on third-party services that carry their own regulatory and compliance obligations:

PartnerRoleTheir Compliance Responsibility
PlaidBank account connectionsFinancial data aggregation, bank-level security
GoogleGmail & Drive integrationsOAuth 2.0 authorization, Google Workspace data handling
Payment ProcessorSubscription billingPCI DSS card data security

Moninsight vets these partners for strong compliance practices and maintains data processing agreements with them where required. However, each partner is independently responsible for their own regulatory obligations.

What We Are Working Toward

We are a growing company and we take our compliance obligations seriously. Areas we are actively developing include:

  • Formal Security Certification: We are working toward a third-party security audit. We do not currently hold a SOC 2 or equivalent certification and will not claim otherwise until we do.
  • Expanded GDPR Infrastructure: As we grow internationally, we are building out data residency and transfer mechanisms (such as Standard Contractual Clauses) to better serve EU users.
  • Accessibility: We are committed to making Moninsight accessible to users with disabilities and are working toward WCAG 2.1 AA conformance.
